Fairbrother is the Tasmanian Commercial Builder of the Year
Fairbrother Construction has been announced as the Tasmanian Commercial Builder of the Year for 2024.
On the back of several exceptionally strong projects, Fairbrother won eight awards at the Master Builders Tasmania Awards for Excellence Evening on Saturday night, 31 August. The UTAS River’s Edge project in Launceston was the standout performer with six individual awards:
- New Construction – $20m – $50m
- Education Facility
- Energy Effiiciency Commercial
- Water and Soil Management
- Best Use of Australian Made Products – Commercial – UTAS River’s Edge
- Specialist Contractor of the Year (Fairbrother Joinery)
Additionally, Bethlehem House social housing development in Hobart received the award for Medium Density over 5 Dwellings.
Capping off a night of such strong performance was the Commercial Builder of the Year award.
“We’re absolutely wrapped with this result,” said Fairbrother Chief Executive Officer Kurt Arnold. “This is great recognition for the efforts of everyone involved in delivering these two excellent projects. The UTAS River’s Edge project does deserve special mention, the opportunity to deliver projects of this nature don’t come around frequently. I couldn’t be more proud of our commitment and resilience displayed in delivering an exceptionally high quality project. This project is a fantastic reflection of our capabilities..”
The River’s Edge Project is one of several projects Fairbrother has completed for the University of Tasmania in recent years, with the Cradle Coast Campus building having a similar impact on the 2022 awards.
“We’re very proud of what our team’s been able to achieve in delivering this phenomenal project,” said Fairbrother General Manager – Northern Tasmania Marcus Perkins. “We’re thankful to have had the opportunity to deliver another key educational facility for our long-term client, University of Tasmania.”
Fairbrother Joinery were recognised for an incredible effort on this project. Of particular note are the 10 enormous timber hoods hanging in the 20-metre high atrium, the largest of which weighing close to four tonnes. Each sheet of veneer was colour matched and grain-aligned across all sections from top to bottom.
The night was a celebration, too, for the Southern Construction team with the recognition of Bethlehem House in the Medium Density over 5 Dwellings category. A project that experienced significant challenges throughout the build, the award is an accolade that the team who worked so hard on this project truly deserve.
“I’d like to acknowledge everyone who’s worked on these projects and brought them to completion,” said Kurt. “It’s truly a team effort, and these awards reflect the contributions of the Fairbrother employees, as well as the teams of consultants, subcontractors, and client stakeholders across the board.”
A number of the awards will now go into the mix for recognition at the Master Builders Australia national awards ceremony to be held in November.
