Breaking Ground at Spring Farm Village

Construction has officially commenced on Spring Farm Village, a major new retail precinct in Kingborough, with a soil-turning ceremony marking the beginning of this exciting project. Built by Fairbrother on behalf of repeat client, Tipalea Partners, the $50 million project will deliver a state-of-the-art shopping centre covering more than 7,500m2 of retail space. Alongside this, the project is expected to generate more than 1,100 jobs between construction and ongoing retail operations.
“I’m very happy to be getting the band back together with Fairbrother and the team,” said Scott Spanton, Chief Executive Officer at Tipalea Partners. “All our projects in Tasmania over the last 15 years have been delivered with Fairbrother through a negotiated contract, built on trust and shared goals. I sleep well at night knowing they’re on the job.”
Spring Farm Village will bring essential retail and services to one of Tasmania’s fastest-growing municipalities, responding to the increasing demand from new residential developments in the area. The precinct will include a Coles supermarket, specialty stores, and health and wellbeing services, enhancing convenience and choice for local residents.
“Kingborough is experiencing significant growth, and with that comes increased demand for retail and health services,” said Cr Paula Wriedt, Mayor of Kingborough. “This project will provide much-needed amenities for our expanding population while also delivering valuable local employment opportunities.”
For Fairbrother, the project represents not only another milestone in its partnership with Tipalea but also a crucial opportunity to support workforce development.
“Twenty-five percent of our workforce are apprentices, and projects like this provide an ideal environment for them to develop their skills,” said Paul Ransley, General Manager Southern Tasmania at Fairbrother. “It’s also a great opportunity for our team members who live in this region to work close to home.”
Fairbrother’s commitment to engaging future generations of workers extends beyond its apprentices. In collaboration with Tipalea and the Beacon Foundation, students from Kingston High and Huonville High will visit the site to gain insight into career pathways in construction and retail.
“This initiative helps young people understand the career opportunities available to them, not just in construction but across the industries that will operate in the completed centre,” Paul added.
As work ramps up on-site, the anticipation for Spring Farm Village continues to build. With strong community support, strategic partnerships, and a focus on job creation, this project is set to become a vital hub for Kingborough residents.
In 2022, Fairbrother successfully delivered the Glebe Hill Village retail development, also working with Tipalea Partners on that project. The company’s involvement with this new development is a demonstration of the strong relationships that Fairbrother develops with its clients. Spring Farm Village is set to provide an increase in retail choice and convenience for the Kingborough region.
